Professional Training Related Questions
If I’m a student chef can I still join the Professional Training as continuing education program? Student chefs are welcome to join Professional Training as a continuing education program, however, chefs must be serious about learning Chinese cooking. The program will encompass intensive classes with fellow professional chefs of all ages. In addition, chefs will perform in an iron chef cook off setting to test the new skills to prepare for a farewell gala.
Do I need to show proof that I am a certified chef?
You will only need to provide a few details about your education background in your application.
Can I enroll in the professional training program even if I’m not a chef?
The professional training program is not offered to non-chefs because of the intensity and the rigorous of the curriculum. CAC offers a Gourmet Adventure program allowing food enthusiasts, adventurers, family and friends of chefs on the program to join us in China.
What do I need to bring for the professional training program?
You should bring your chef uniform and no skid shoes. Chef tools are optional.
It is your choice to bring tools that you are comfortable using and cannot use without. Besides that all other tools will be provided on site. Please note that with tight airport security, kitchen tools that you will bring on this trip will have to be packed in your check in luggage.
General Questions
What things can I do in my spare time?
The locations that you will be staying at in each city are conveniently located and it will be easy and safe for you to explore on your own. The greater China is known for their inexpensive body and reflexology massages, so splurge in rejuvenating yourself. Local shopping, visiting cultural sites and experiencing local eateries are all things that you can do during your spare time. If this is not enough, then we can provide more for you to explore upon enquiry.
Do I need to bring American dollars?
Yes, you will need to bring American dollars to exchange for Chinese currency, RMB. Majority of places in China still use cash only, so credit card usage will be very limited. We recommend bringing at least USD500, however, if you plan on shopping extensively and alike, bring accordingly.
Will I be expected to tip?
It is not common to tip at restaurants or eateries, however, if you go for massages and play golf, you generally tip 5%-10%
Do I have to know Chinese?
It’s not necessary to know Chinese. The instructors for the professional program and Gourmet Adventure will conduct courses in English.
Do the hotels have AC?
Yes, the choice of the standard hotel will have all the basic amenities including A/C, TV, phone and internet access.
What are the accommodations like?
The accommodations in each city are highly reputable. The rooms are clean, spacious and the hospitality service is exceptional. Please visit the respective hotel website for more information.
How big is the facility?
More than 1000 sq. m2 of education and training space: training kitchens with stir-fry, dim sum and BBQ facilities, auditorium lecture room and wine training room
Will meals be provided?
Yes, most meals will be included in the cost, except for a few specified ones on the class schedule.
Is it safe?
Compared to many other countries, China is one of the safest countries in the world. It is very rare to find serious crimes and there are no threats of terrorist attacks. Like any major city, pick-pocket and small crime existing everywhere please extent your usual precaution while you are traveling to unfamiliar cities.

Will Chef Martin Yan be in the program?
Chef Martin Yan will be visiting CAC frequently and will hold events during those visits. Dates on his visits will be posted on the website.
What is the refund policy?

If my family goes along when will I see her/him if we are on different programs?
You will be able to spend time with your family and friends after your class session and of course during your free time. Also, in the evening you will be going to dinners and shows together.
Will I have to apply for my own visa?
Through our agent, we can assist you in getting a Chinese visa with a minimal handling fee. However, you can also apply on your own through the Chinese Consulates.
